Program History

In 1985, Proteus received its first funding from Southern California Edison to provide Relamping services which consisted of installing energy-efficient light bulbs. Over the last two decades, the Energy Division has expanded its programs to include home weatherization, HVAC replacement and repair, energy efficient appliance replacement, and the California Alternative Rates for Energy (CARE) application. The programs are funded by Southern California Gas Company, Southern California Edison, and Pacific Gas and Electric and are designed to help eligible households conserve energy and reduce their electricity costs. Families have been able to save an average of $780.00 a year through the Energy Programs.
