JOB TITLE: Substitute Instructor-Vocational Programs (Truck Driving, Office Automation, Forklift Certification,Weatherization, and Solar)
REPORTS TO: Education Director
STATUS: Non-exempt
SUMMARY: To prepare Proteus participants for entry-level employment through instruction of specific skills training and positive work habits. This position can be in any vocational program in a substitute capacity.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Instructs and trains students on basic procedures, goals, practices, regulations, and job requirements of vocational field.
- Supervises, manages and maintains all training operations and equipment.
- Develops and maintains lesson plans, course objectives and curriculum.
- Develops and implements instruction in good work habits and attitudes.
- Develops and maintains contacts with employers and local businesses to develop potential employment sites including establishing employer site tour visits for students.
- Develops and implements an ongoing skills evaluation system of individual and class progress leading to course objectives.
- Assesses local needs relating to course content and revises and adjusts curriculum to meet local employer needs.
- Works closely with employment and training staff to provide ongoing student development, assessment, and guidance.
- Counsels students both on an individual and group basis in the area of responsibility, motivation and self-confidence.
- Completes all necessary paperwork and systems data entry in a timely manner, documents participant files, and prepares written reports upon request of the Supervisor.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred; or six years’ directly related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience and/or education in special needs area a plus.
COMPUTER SKILLS: Moderate computer skills required for data entry, Word, Excel, and other software programs, as required for the position.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures manuals. Ability to respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATIC SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumstance and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Access to transportation, possession a Class A California driver’s license, minimum auto insurance required law. Must have valid California driver’s license and maintain a good driving record.

SUMMARY: Provides classroom instruction in ESL, ABE, GED and/or High School Diploma education programs. This position can be in any program in a substitute capacity.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1.Adheres to curriculum and instruction in accordance with the California Model Standards.
2.Provides instruction to individuals and/or groups in the required subject(s).
3.Maintains files, attendance records, evaluations, referrals, and other assorted documents.
4.Prepares and administers examinations and evaluates academic progress.
5.Maintains participant files and associated documents to comply with grant requirements.
6.Provides essential student information identified during classroom activities to case management staff for inclusion in the Individual Service Strategy, as required.
7.Monitors students= progress in achieving planned goals, objectives and tasks. Provides regular assessments to measure continuing progress.
8.Counsels and advises students in resolving problems so that academic goals and objectives are realized, as required.
9.Assists staff in the preparation of correspondence, reports, and individual service strategies, as required.
10.Coordinates activities with other staff to meet overall program goals.
11.Provides case management and counseling, when needed or required.
12.Interviews customers to determine their employment and/or training needs and eligibility to services and tasks, as required.
13.Attends related educational staff meetings.
