SUMMARY: To prepare Proteus youth participants for entry-level employment in the screenprinting industry through instruction of specific skills training and positive work habits.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be


  1. Instructs and      trains youth/students to work in the screen-printing industry and focus on      the three

main areas of the screen-printing industry; graphics design fundamentals, desktop publishing

programs, embroidery, and procedures of silk screening industry.

  1. Handles the      process from conception of graphic design to burning of graphic silk      screen, registers

silk screening frame, and prepares for all final processes.

  1. Responsible for      prioritizing, organizing, planning, directing, staffing, and controlling      the

operations of the Print Shop.

  1. Assures quality      control in typesetting and graphic design layout.
  2. Facilitates the      training of Print Shop in the use of all equipment and software.
  3. Supervises,      manages, and maintains all training operations and equipment.
  4. Develops and      maintains lesson plans, course objectives and curriculum.
  5. Develops and      implements instruction in good work habits and attitudes.
  6. Follows safety      standards when working with machinery and noxious materials and ensures      that

youth/students are properly trained in all safety and environmental areas.

  1. Develops and      maintains contacts with employers and local businesses to develop      potential

employment/training sites, including establishing employer site tour visits for students.

  1. Develops and      implements an ongoing skills evaluation system of individual and class      progress

leading to course objectives.

  1. Assesses local      needs relating to course content and revises and adjusts curriculum to      meet local

employer needs.

  1. Works closely      with youth employment and training and case management staff to provide

ongoing student development, assessment, and guidance.

  1. Counsels      youth/students both on an individual and group basis in the area of      responsibility,

motivation and self-confidence.

  1. Completes all      necessary paperwork and systems data entry in a timely manner, documents

participant files, and prepares written reports upon request of the supervisor.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in a related field; or six years’ directly related

experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


COMPUTER SKILLS: Extensive background experience with personal computers including MAC

computer to operate software including Corel, Photoshop, and Illustrator. Typing accuracy and speed

sufficient to perform listed duties.


LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional

journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business

correspondence, and procedures manuals. Ability to respond to questions from groups of managers,

clients, customers, and the general public.


MATHEMATIC SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest,

commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumstance and volume. Ability to apply concepts of

basic algebra and geometry.


REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete

variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of

instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must frequently lift

and/or move up to 50 pounds and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision

abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus. Visual

dexterity required for preparing, reviewing and evaluating print jobs.


WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of

those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable

Print shop work is performed indoors with exposure to noxious odors and machinery noise.

The noise level in the work environment is moderate.

Employment Range: $2,828   – $3,101 / month
