Special Qualities To Be An Effective Foster Parent
1. Can you love and care for a child as a member of your household even
though the child cannot be your own?
2. Will your child, if any, accept foster children as equal members of the
household?
3. Would a child who may be disturbed and unhappy over separation from
his/her parents be, able to feel secure and happy in your home?
4. Will you be able to accept the child's natural parents no matter what they are
like?
5. Can you return the child to hislher parents when separation time comes,
without being emotionally upset, realizing it is in the best interest of the child
to be with hislher parents?
6. Will you as providers of care be willing to work in partnership with the
Department of Social Services toward the goals prescribed for each foster
child?
7. Are you willing to recognize your needs as foster parents and seek help with
those needs through group meetings with other foster parents and/or through
educational courses or other resources of your choosing?
8. Are you willing to share your knowledge, skills and experience to become a
resource person to other foster parents?
9. Are you willing to share your knowledge, skills and experience to become a
resource person to other foster parents?
10. Does your general health permit you to cope with extra work and small
irritations that children inevitably bring? Does your marriage reflect an
atmosphere of mutual love and understanding?
